"Planning on doing a "wiper trip" -
Assuming this is to clean the hole ready for sampling and provide the best achievable sample ?
Is this a very common practice ? "
Where a wireline logging job will extend over a significant length of time (usually >4 days) its common to perform a wiper trip halfway through the job. The most common reason I've run wiper trips is to cool the hole down in deep wells where the bottom hole temperature is getting close to the temp limits of the wireline tools.
As well as conditioning the borehole a wiper trip is also an opportunity to turn over the mud in the hole and adjust any mud properties if necessary.
