Bron, your comments just reminded me of a similar 'incident' that I had a couple of years ago now where I was 'cold-called' at home by someone -purporting- to be from my bank and wanting to talk to me about my financial matters.
Anyway, long story short, they were very convincing on the phone and I was just about to verify some of my private information to them, when I suddenly 'smelled a rat' and decided to ask them first, to confirm their own bank employee details and their direct bank contact phone number.
If you can't already guess the rest, I'll tell you.
I promptly hung up on them and then called the bank's main phone number and asked to be connected to this person and very quickly then found out that it was a 'cold-calling' scam.
So I'd just like to offer a little timely warning to ALL here on HC.
ALWAYS CONFIRM by your own separate means, the identity of ANYONE who calls you, wanting to discuss your personal financial matters, BEFORE you disclose ANYTHING to them.

Remember, "Act in haste. Repent at leisure."
