I'm as annoyed as anyone at the apparent corporate stuff-up with regards to the TH. TH have generally been quite rare with this company. Many companies use them as a hype tool - far too often. SHE/POW has always been very conservative in its use of the TH. I cant help but think either 1. someone new has made the call to pull a TH out - wrongly, or 2. In the time following the TH, perhaps the details changed and they had to say something. Any fool can see that the content of the TH is far from new, price sensitive info.
Unless, you consider that the our whole energy production paradigm is based on the scalability of the units. 1 Unit has been in the water for a week or so. The length of time used to get the data just makes for a more accurate prediction of energy output capability based on mean wavelength/wind/sea height etc., over time. The reality is, a unit would need to be in the water for an entire year so as to be able to predict an average annual production capability based on the variability of the seasons.
Do we really need 30 in the water? Is the total capability just a multiplication of the number of units. The data is being collected in real time is it not?
I am buoyed (pardon the punn) by the fact that after a week or so, the data has been good enough to commit to a further 2 units - thus testing the scalable and reproducible factors of the design. If the power produced from the 1st unit had been very much below already published expectations, I feel the TH would have had much more negative content....... ie "it's a dud".
In conclusion, I think they, or someone, just stuffed up with the TH.
Time will tell.
