From my reading it's pretty obvious the June write offs were to reduce goodwill in preparation for more acquisitions, and besides, it would be hard to justify the high valuation given the performance of the businesses to that point.
As I said in an earlier post I think you'll find the new team has a completely different style and capability, just google the board and management and read their Bio's. As I said in an earlier post: New Board on a new path. Don't forget they were re capitalised earlier last year too.
They also bought 2 new businesses into the fold before the end of '09 so maybe the latest 4C has some of those related costs wrapped up in it?
As for Kaz, it was split up and sold off and whilst publicly it was a bit of a political hot potato, I hear that Telstra made a mozza. After all, just one part of Kaz was sold off to Fujitsu for $200m not to mention the money they made from it while they owned it.
Keep an eye on this one I reckon.
