Macarthur Coal Ltd has gone into a trading halt ahead of a major public notice by the miner.
"Macarthur Coal requests a trading halt prior to the commencement of trading on 24 August 2010 pending the release of an important announcement regarding an acquisition and capital raising by the company," it said in a statement on Tuesday.
Shares in the coal miner closed down eight cents at $12.36 on Monday.
