From my understanding of the teleconference, WEC have coal supply issues for their plant and are considering disassembling it for relocation. WEC already have their own upgrading technology which they are licensing from the CSIRO, so it has no need for ESI as they are a competitor even though ESI requires a power plant’s waste heat for its process and WEC does use more energy for the process than other comparative upgrading technologies like Exergen.
An option for WEC’s coal supply issues would be to make a bid for MNM who are currently drilling to JORC 2bt of suitable upgradable coal. MNM’s MC is only $14 million. I am not sure how that would go with the MOU that MNM have signed with Exergen. It could possibly kill two birds with one stone, acquire a resource and make significant delays for a competitor.
