This announcement is obviously ORL saying they have lost the licence or they will only get a short extension since its in a TH. I cant remember the last time ORL was in a TH.
PRL are taking back licences around the world to increase profit and have more control over their businesses and making sure that the brand integrity is held up high and not trashed like some would suggest ORL does to it here. By that I mean the heavy discounting and sale activity that goes on with Ralph in this country.
If ORL lose the licence they will really miss the cash flow and margin they make from the DFO stores, that's what prop up the first retail stores and keep them trading, sure the retail makes money but the DFO's are what really add to the bottom line.
The only thing stopping PRL from taking it back will be the set up costs and resources needed to run it here, they have a big office in HK which could oversee things but they need a team on the ground.
One thing is for sure, if ORL lose the licence they will buy another business or licence, they had been running the ruler over Mimco before Witchery snapped it up and there is strong suggestion/rumour they are looking at buying RM Williams.
Sally Mac is a very smart woman and Oroton is doing extremely well here and in Asia, IMO there will be a reaction to the news but they will just bolt on another business using the same resources and build it up like they have with Oroton. Maybe some short term pain but long term gain.
Another thing that could come of this is that if PRL take back the licence we can be sure there will be better product and better service for Ralph shoppers!
