I think you are referring to Blizzard/Activision (makers of the Diablo series, Starcraft, World of Warcraft ). Blizzard recently purchased King Entertainment, (who make the Candy Crush saga). Sold for US $5.6 billion. Candy Crush is a absolute cash cow with its in-app purchases.

Not all apps are equal. A few are diamonds but most are dogs that rarely break even. Having an app is not necessarily a licence to print money. We can only hope that Dykes finds the right one.

The holy grail would be 1) global and viral in its uptake by consumers, 2) the ability to generate cash flow, 3) disruptive enough to be a game changer which leads to ongoing usage not just a fad.
