That is arguably the role of the Administrators to undertake - to investigate the reasons for the collapse. Hopefully it will be insightful and provide evidence for legislators to minimise the risk of it happening again.
I'd question how much of this the auditor knew and whether or not there needs to be a positive obligation on auditors to report such issues to ASIC to investigate. I believe they already provide such reports but maybe ASIC doesn't have sufficient resourcing to review all the reports (I have read they use such reports for trend analysis but not necessarily investigating every individual report's issues raised).
