Could they be making sure they have the cash to weather a cut in margins due to Spookfish coming online(in Australia) in the near future? No doubt Spookfish will come in at a lower price than NEA to acquire and poach clients. Not everyone needs the full historical database NEA has, so if the price is right they'll switch/choose SFI. NEA will have to lower there price to retain/attract clients.
Might just be adding to the cash stockpile so that they win the price war.
