Very true and I guess that for me has been the reason I've never been comfortable holding anything but a very small number of stocks at any one times, mostly with a long term time frame. This very small number allows me to really dig deeply with each one, get to know the guys running the show, and really understand the business and forward plans.
Hold too many and unless you spend a lot of time on it almost every day it really is almost impossible to do justice to each stock.
Each to his own, it has worked well for me barring the odd disaster and that was when very early on I made the classic mistake you mentioned, that was mistaking a bull market for brains.
Needless to say it will be very interesting to see how EMC/Fluence pans out over the next 5 years, for me it is at least a 5 to 8 year hold unless red flags appear.
