Phoenix TV & BJ Radio to Set Up Advertising JV ( ) BEIJING, Sep 08, 2004 (SinoCast via COMTEX) -- Phoenix TV, the most renowned TV station based in Hong Kong under News Corp. ( NYSE:NWS), signed an agreement on September 3 with Beijing People's Radio Station, in a bid to set up a joint venture advertisement company in Beijing. It was one of the projects of Beijing/Hong Kong Economic Cooperation Symposium. Phoenix TV and BJ People's Radio Stationrespectively took 45% and 55% stake in it.
Insiders said that China had gradually opened its media market to foreign investors, who could gain certain operating right bymeans of equity investment but couldn't control the joint venture. As a result, foreign media firms first preferred to make investment in advertisement industry.
