Well, it doesn't really matter because within seconds we will be in to normal trading (however, on the back of a major re-rating announcement).
I am not an expert, but from memory it works something like this...
The opening estimate is sort of a volume weighted averaging of the overlapping SELL and BUY bids.
If you are trying to work out what you need to bid at to ensure buying at the open you have to look at the overlapping price and then probably add a few cents to the top of that range to be sure.
What a "few cents" means is anyone's guess.
I am guessing millions of extra BUY orders will hit the queue bang on open.
