Who knows. Does anyone know what the history of ALK's board with our MD John Lawton? Those that have been in the mining industry for sometime tend to know everyone.
My best guess is ALK knows that RMS are in a tight spot in regards ore for Edna May and so will have to up their TO bid. Could just be a quick flip for ALK.
The other alternative is they have seen the amount of money Mace will make in the short term (it is high grade and shallow so will be as cheap as chips to mine) and so want in. Anyway we are going to have to speculate until the TH is lifted.
