Away ATM but from memory . initial run for aus mil is 1100 from memory to be built over 5 years but that may be old info as I looked at it 5 years ago and 3 years ago? a govt contract was signed. They were spruiking to other mil around the world and a couple of different versions. I know the same folk who provided suspension and axels or bushmasters were involved. They were initially 4 wheel discs with abs etc.

Need to be careful to ensure they are talking the whole fleet not just a small amount used via special forces etc that have special requirements or trailers where different heat signature, persona protection, load capacity and quietness are specified. Very weight dependent as it was specced to be able to be heli slung so every kg makes a difference.

Not sure if hill holder brakes are referring to complete braking system or just a inboard or propshaft brake or a modified or complete failsafe system of the mining brakes.

Vehicles are 6t so no lightweights

Company involved is no dummy and have seen before that they have something "modified" to their spec and retain rights to that design so no matter what they can build their product if supplier disappears or become noncompetitive etc . They enter and put much energy into many early agreements that come to nothing as well . There may be a preference for au content as part of the contract.

That brings up the next point - just what IP coverage does ABV have these days as people involved in military contracts have massive resources, support and capability to duplicate similar products in their skunkworks and if purely for military use compliance for on road etc is irrelevant etc etc. Don't believe for a minute Boeing ,carlsial, girlock,TMD , Honeywell brembo, bosch don't have technology capability and already supply military. etc

Not like there isn't direct competition. https://knottbrake.com/military-brake-systems/ they do a failsafe as well https://knottbrake.com/categories/disc-brakes/sahr-disc-brakes/

Finally after how many years have they got a nibble in a sector that will pay for the durability, reliability , long service life , low maintenance that they are good at. In operational areas support and maintenance to keep vehicles serviceable can be 5 fold in number of operational personnel and 10 fold in logistic footprint resources . The having to keep parts and service staff , house em, feed em and keep em safe in country close to fighting areas is a massive cost so anything that reduces that logistics load is a no brainer.
