Hi PS: "This is arithmetic, not maths"

Sorry if my post appears somewhat pedantic but may I advise that the word maths (mathematics) is a plural word which encompasses all forms of calculation, theorems, etc. and as such includes arithmetic. The area of work is irrelevant.

As an aside, that is why the American use of the word math is so wrong. The concept of abbreviation is to remove letters from the full spelling but only to the extent that the word can still be identified. That of course, includes identification of the word's form. ie: Maths identifies the plural but math implies the singular, and there is no such word as mathematic. Cheers!
