I think this overanalysing of short term trends is nonsense, how much of the UK’s drop was in anticipation of the model 3? Which coincidentally started arriving in July and doubtless displaced a huge proportion of PHEV and other BEV purchases given its so obviously the go to electric vehicle. So many people are deferring fossil fuel car replacement in anticipation of good BEV alternatives and VW are positioning to become king by providing that step with $50 billion of investment to drive the change. The same tooth gnashing around ‘the end of EV’s’ occurred after Tesla had one bad quarter now rapidly banished. With Euro emissions fines and falling EV costs it seems almost inevitable that the transition will occur and accelerate.
