Not unusual at all... What happens if production has been impacted or machinery has need to be shutdown? It could be days and revenue could be hit as well as additional cost being incurred. Smart move to put it into a halt before rumours surface.
That way when all the facts come out trading will occur on factual information available to all.
However i disagree with @walmak that an incident which puts the stock into a trading halt could be positive.
