Sorry to hear this news and my thoughts are with those affected. SAR has had an enviable safety record so is sad to hear the impact of this incident. The main thing is to find out the ‘why’ and remedy where they can. Only an investigation will find out the repercussions and the extent thereof. This is something I am always aware of with mining companies and the larger they become, imo, increases the risk of these types of incidents. It’s something that comes up from time to time with a lot of the big companies with increasing projects. It’s the first ‘serious’ incident Iknow of in my 7 years of holding SAR. I know that management are very safety conscious and that they will, I’m sure, be doing everything to preclude any repeat, as well as provide support to family/families affected before the task of getting mine back on track.
I probably expect some volatility, but on experiences with other companies, all going well ... they will ride again.
Again, my thoughts go out to those affected.
Regards....
