to determine sepsis you just need to have a sick patient ( low BP) and a high neutrophil count. thats usually what you find but its more tricky in really old non ambulent patients. Rigors are an early sign, then fever an hour or two later( as my father proved). The docs blindly gave him a combo of antibiotics IV and he was better 3 hours later but if we had chosen the wrong ones....
