Yeah, lot of china focused stocks (resource and other export) down this morning on that cluster-f. I don;t disagree with the Frydenberg's decision necessarily but the way he handled it was atrocious. First he should have intervened before FIRB decided to approve, then he should have put it to the sword quickly and efficiently. Instead he let FIRB approve, over-rode them, and let it drag out almost 12 months before poking China in the eye yesterday at the peak of our diplomatic lows. Clown

That said the rationale for knocking back China on the dairy business is because they are adding no value, just buying an existing asset for control and potentially to off-shore profits etc. China have already played games on the milk formula front by holding back approvals and changing the goal posts for Aussie exporters... they have form in this industry. There is no 'value-add' by the Chinese taking over an existing business so no upside for Australia.

With SFX, clearly the upside for a Chinese funding investment is that TB is built for jobs, tax, export revenue etc. Without YS history has shown SFX will struggle for funding. Further, YS are only buying a non-controlling 50% of the project, and in doing so make certain they will be firm and reliabe off-take partners. A chalk and cheese situation with the dairy business (pardon the pun) and all logic says both FIRB and the government will be delighted to accept YS investment into TB.

Market might have different concerns, but the market doesn;t have the same level of consideration in the situation as we do. Shoot first, ask detailed questions later tends to be the reaction.
