    I think it's most likely your #2, don't forget they have a licensee with skin in the game for this indication, and that licensee will have their own thoughts on whether to halt the trial or continue it, strategy on approaching FDA, etc. They would need time to discuss with Novartis.

    Better too, to halt immediately and stop any further deterioration in share price, which impacts the amount of equity Novartis gets for its $25 million.
