Purchase price was adjusted to allow for tax credits, so should have some recourse there. Barrick will not want their reputation trashed and it would be very bad for further deals etc going forward. The Tax man is never going to chase people down to give them a refund, so it must be an underpayment. It should not be too substantial as production back then was only from tailings. Worse case scenario is an adjustment to tax credits, then have a conversation with Barrick.
