However, July 1, 2021 (today) also marks the first day that Victorian electric vehicle owners have to submit odometer readings in order to be taxed 2.5 cents per kilometre driven; a tax that is proving exceedingly unpopular and driving some EV owners to find creative ways to submit their readings to the state government:
TBH I don't think a user charge is going to stop anybody who wants and can afford an EV to purchase one.
For many, they want to be part of the "the future is definitely electric" story.
A user charge is going to happen at some point in the future, regardless.
Even NSW are going down that path. Note Road user charge conveniently forward dated to July 2027 = after the state election.
