Agree, as an existing shareholder it is a smart move by management and MQG has a history of doing this when the share price is fully valued. I have held MQG since it was around $60 and the continued earnings growth has been pleasing. Obviously the share price has grown more quickly than earnings and hence the issues around valuation. My strategy is to hope earnings growth eats into the high multiple over time. The CGT liabilities are too onerous for me to consider selling.
No doubt there are some more nimble/informed posters than me that are selling and will redeploy their capital at higher rates of return. However, my strategy of doing very little and just holding good companies that grow earnings has worked out ok so far. For anyone who owns MQG outside of super the CGT liabilities will be a serious factor in your decision to hold or sell.
