I do find it quite unusual that a Government with 31 seats can pass such an important bill with 11 votes 9 against 2 abstain what happened to the rest
like 30% did not vote how does that happen..???

    Translation of news article:

Uranium ban voted through by a slim majority

After three hours of intense debate with accusations and heated debate, the law banning uranium in exploration and extraction was voted through by a slim majority in Inatsisartut. debated. The three-hour debate ended with a vote in which a narrow majority in Inatsisartut voted in favor of the law, which states with seven-inch nails that uranium mining in Greenland is prohibited.

With the law, the Naalakkersuisut can also close the door in for exploration of other raw materials if the average content of uranium in the total resource is over 100 ppm.

11 voted for the law, nine voted against the law while Atassut's two members abstained.

    Referendum waste of resources

During the debate, the waves went high, with the parties accusing each other of not involving the population when it comes to raw material extraction.

    - We vote for the future, we vote for a pure nature that is inherited for generations, said IA's rapporteur Mariane Paviasen among other things and said that she saw a referendum as a waste of time and money directly questioned by Nivi Olsen (D).

That got the support party chairman, Aqqalu Jeremiassen, up in the red box when he saw the statement as disrespectful and uncompromising.

    - It is worrying that our partners see our amendments as a waste of money and time. Referendums are good tools that we can use in our work. And we have seen in the past that such votes create calm and stability in our political work, he said, using the Community vote and the self-government vote as examples.

    The business column is removed

Up to several times, IA’s Mariane Paviasen had to state that the Inuit Ataqatigiit went to the polls to reintroduce a ban on uranium, and that the party is now in the process of doing their part to fulfill their promise to voters. Just as many times, the opposition stood and pointed out that the election was not the same as a referendum on uranium.

    - I see this debate as a removal of the country's fourth pillar, the business community, which we would otherwise have to develop so that the future of our descendants can be secured, Nivi Olsen said, among other things, and expresses regret that the law will be reintroduced, as this can reduce investment.

Both of the two amendments from the committee were voted down by the coalition. It was amendments on a referendum and on the removal of section two of the bill authorizing naalakkersusiut to ban other radioactive substances if it becomes topical.
