millions

THREE Queensland critical
minerals processors will receive multimillion-dollar
grants to help them further refine and build products locally.
Resources Minister Keith
Pitt will announce $42m in
grants to four companies on
Thursday, including $15.5m to
expand Alpha HPA’s “ultrapure” aluminium chemical
plant near Gladstone, in the
target seat of Flynn.
There will also be $6m for
EQ Resources’ tungsten production facility, which is
recovering mine waste and reactivating an open-pit mine in
Mount Carbine, in the seat of
Leichhardt, and $5.24m for Lava
Blue to develop technology to
recover high-purity alumina,
magnesium and other critical
minerals from mine waste.
“Australia possesses extraordinary reserves of critical
minerals crucial to many industries, including medical
equipment, defence, aerospace, automotive, new batteries and agritech,” Mr Pitt said.
“This initiative will help uncover new sources of supply,
moving up the value chain of
critical minerals through processing and high-technology
manufacturing, supporting robust supply chains, and creating
high-paying regional jobs for
Australians while improving
Australia’s export resilience.”
