No it doesn't make sense. You'd expect copper and PGE's to also be in the laterite, particularly the PGE's which you'd expect would be a lot less mobile elements. To not have them suggests that it is not magmatic related otherwise you'd think (at least hope anyway) that this would have been picked up a lot earlier than now.
