A pause in trading is an extremely common occurrence before a trading halt I don’t understand where you get such an assumption from? there were 7 trading halts today on the asx, 3 of which had a pause on trading. They happen almost every day.

It’s actually the ASX that pauses trading for 2 reasons:

    1. the listed entity tells the asx it intends to lodge a market sensitive announcement and the asx is concerned the market won’t trade normally if ahead of that announcement
    2. when the listed entity requests a trading and the asx agrees and imposed the pause to prevent trading on an uninformed basis.

the most likely sequence of events was, RAC requested the halt or said they will be issuing a price sensitive announcement and then asx paused trading. Then asx releases the RAC announcement upon receiving it. Simple as that

Also, what demonstrates the turn in sentiment you discuss?
