You get a couple of days to lodge an Appendix 3Y - looks like the share purchasing happened yesterday. I would assume the director (like many of us) knew results were incoming, but didn't know the nature of those results, so he took a big punt... and then the good news arrived. I've certainly seen directors take big punts a day or two before results come in, only for things to go the other direction. I'm not suggesting we should be naive but there are plenty of lawful explanations.
