I see it as:- Making sure we get some kind of samples to service to get a real result, to see what we are looking at, before drilling any further, as the next section could be touch and go.
Or
They needed to change a part and thought to grab a result why they could.
I agree it wasn't a plan to grab a result so soon.
Feelings:- I believe they know the mothership is there, it's just getting it to the surface that is the key to where this all ends up.
