In a freshly drilled near vertical ST, where they have a good handle on mudweight, have minimised washout in coals, coaley shales on W/L they'd have an excellent chance of running that tool back to surface (famous last words with IVZ but the reasons behind previous issues are well-documented). Best explanation - they only would've called it downhole if they were confident in getting the W/L tool backup - and they could be pretty confident if they had no issues going down (and they knew the hole was more or less in gauge)
