Kiwi is saying if the drilling tool / BHA failed. Maybe the mud motor or the MWD pulsar. Or the drill bit wore out. This would require a trip out of the hole to change components and would provide an opportunity to log/sample if deemed prudent. Or they could have planned it based upon reaching bottom of UA, as they were at 2987mMD just above the LA at 3100m yesterday.

As less than 24 hrs from last announcement and they were on bottom with the bit at last announcement, it would be a bit early to actually have a sample. They would have had to POOH with drill string, RU wireline, and run base log first. But who knows, they could have skipped the base log. if the LWD GR/RES was working and everything correlated with the original wellbore.
