Hey wot. Think of the well as a hydraulic piston. Damage to the pay zone generally only occurs from too much hydrostatic pressure, whether that is from crushing the formation or leaving a skin which can block the pores. The hydraulic piston - a column of weighted fluid, excerts pressure on the pay zone. Like a diving bell, the deeper you go, the more pressure. Too much pressure and you can collapse the pay zone. Too little and you have a blow out and risk loss of life and equipment. The only way to categorically measure flow rates and calculate reservoir performance and size is to conduct a production test. If damaged, remedial options exist - example acid wash and fracking. If they know the well has issue prior to PT, then acid wash and or fracturing - sometimes using an inert gas like nitrogen, is a far cheaper option than the cost of a full scale production test. Until complete of PT, any analysis – no matter how good you are ( or think your are) is purely probability at play. As for the side issue of paranoia and shorts – forget not that someone might have hedged their liability in the closing seconds of trade 8/2/24. When the sun comes up post TH, only then we will all know for sure.
