If the deal is off, no need to wait a couple of days to announce. The extra time is for careful drafting of the announcement wordings.
How careful does it need to get just to inform "Deal's off, guys".

If it's another extension, then it's just one more to a series of extensions made.
Also doesn't need a careful choice of words, they have had enough practice already to announce it off the cuff.

If the deal's basically done, just waiting for the ink to land on paper, then there's a lot to say and clarify carefully.
Particularly if there's another complex deal indirectly connected to Goongarie that might still be tentative. Then the info needs to be carefully redacted/isolated/etc.
