The DOW has been overpriced for months and a correction was imminent. Human nature dictates following the herd is the safe option which often is not the best road. As far as a housing crash in Australia i doubt that the federal government is too addicted to foreign cash inflows and will continue its stupidly high immigration policy thus continuing to place preasure on housing shortages. This country has been so poorly run for so long by conservative governments that a significant recession is looming as a distinct possibility.
