The carrying capacity is the real indicator to use. The country is hard with narrow creek areas where the native grasses can grow. Overstocking with sheep in earlier times has severly depleted the native grasses elsewhere. Drought is a constant companion. The Leonora area has been in drought for the last 5 years and only this year rain in March has brought it back to life. Wildflowers are everywhere throughout the Goldfields and the Mid West.
800 head of cattle were supposedly there when they bought it. That would have been about right for unimproved property in the area. The property was supposedly destocked when SBM sold it so where the stock came from is anybodies guess.
Red don't need the accomodation on it nor would they need it as a base for any of their activities. Their minesite is less than 5kms from the homestead and their camp is another 4 kms after that.
