The USA has been producing helium for about 100+ years and the major global producer for decades supplying global helium demand with their BLM helium reserves.
Now it's more a situation of the USA having depleted its reserves to some extent so the search on for new reserves. In recent years Qatar, Russia and Algeria have been growing their global helium market share substantially replacing the USA supply.
