Unsure if this is new news, but seems like atm withdrawal fees (for customers, not interchange fee) changed on 1 Feb in India. Increased fees of course welcome for Findi investors, but only three fee free withdrawals per month seems harsh. Given India’s low atm penetration rate is understandable to encourage ATM providers to deploy. I compare to Australia where those banks (or at least cba who I bank with) who can't charge a fee are overtly and rapidly reducing their ATM presence and it is becoming common to see ATM's out of service for extended periods and queues, which wasn't the case only a few years ago. Increasingly RBA and banks are pushing Woolies and Coles to be fee free point of cash withdrawal service, but I don’t know in India if there is an alternative to ATM if want to withdraw cash.
