From my understanding of the methane pyrolysis produced graphite, such as the by product of another promising Aussie company Hazer’s hydrogen plant, it is not of the spherical quality required for anode production, mainly suitable for steel production and other graphite uses.
Not to say this process may not be refined further to produce spherical graphite. I am not sure about Novonix method, but my understanding of their synthetic product, is that it uses a lot of energy, and its cost base is higher than natural per tonne produced.
Can anyone add further insight into this subject?
