It is a decent businesses and commands 27 pe with future earning growth of 10% or less. DMP on the hand has created a poor sentiment around the organisation for last 2yrs and therefore PE has dropped from about 70 to 20. The point I am making is earnings of the company didn’t change by that much, only investors perception. Of course there was a valid reasons for investors to take that stand. Three years back when Covid was rampant, expectations of Dmp was to keep increasing the bottom line at that terrific rate.
Current situation is that DMP restructuring savings from closure of stores and corporate office head count reduction, is expecting $60m at PBT level. It is simple maths, 2024 expectations of $180+ 60.That alone is 30% increase of PBT in 2 years, which is much higher than the analysts expectations of MacDonald and US Pizza. DMP is forecasted to grow much faster than MacDonald and US Pizza companies. For the sentiment to change there is only one event that needs to happen, which is the Japanese market. My calculation and many analysts seems to give further 5% reduction in the Japanese market and to start stabilise. I read that there was pick up of store opening in Japan during Covid including DMP, which are unwinding due to liquidation. My take is this will sort itself out soon and Japanese market for Dmp will hit rock bottom soon. Change of sentiment will come with it.
