The market sentiment today tends to overreact to not meeting expectations expressed by either the company or market analysts. So in BEN's case the bland result was better than the market analyst's general expectations that the regional bank's results would show heavy underperformance due to their inability to maintain their net interest margin in a competitive market for funding. Those forecasts caused an SP decline to match the expected drop in performance. Analysts were wrong so the price has corrected to match the new reality. In the current market where the lower ranked regional banks have to experience higher funding and deposit rates than the majors such as NAB, CBA etc I thought it was a commendable result.
