In my experience of the roads I can only comment on the Sydney (M27& M7) numbers here:
Hills M2 and the M5 South West Motorway continue to benefit from upgrade works which were completed in August 2013 and December 2014, respectively.
Revenue on the M7 increased by 24.3% in the September quarter compared to the pcp. This was in part due to the increase in the truck toll multiplier to 1.67 times the car toll in the September quarter. The multiplier will reach 3 times the car toll on 1 January 2017.
Basically M7 links up to the new growth corridor of Sydney, where there are stacks of houses being built. There is no infrastructure or public transport aside from the heavily squashed Richmond station which is 10 minutes west of the newly built Marsden Park area.
I suspect housing rises have also factored in as consumers feel they're wealthier and can afford the save in time. Speaking of time saved, I took the M4 for a rare occasion over the mountains and I won't be using it again in a hurry. Back to using M2-M7 onto Richmond Road as it is far far quicker
