Hi Bsumisu - there is another possible option to the Swedish Government amending the uranium mining ban and at the same time rescinding the power of the municipal mining veto. I’m currently stalking (in the nicest possible way) Britain’s Beowulf Mining’s Kallak iron ore deposit in Northern Sweden.
Cutting to the chase - the local municipality vetoed it and last March the previous Government then gave Beowulf permission to proceed with economic and environmental studies and apply to an environmental court to start processing ore. However Beowulf will have to meet a range of environmental and other conditions which the government attached to it’s approval.
I have been unable to find another example of government taking any action after a municipal veto. This approach might be more politically acceptable and so I will keep watching…
