Looks like you are right in that the samples were crushed for the follow-up metallurgy tests, VMM's initial one was on a less disturbed sample below, but both MEI and VMM have since published samples that were crushed to <1mm size (Search for "Met" / "Metal" on the various forums and those anns come up). I guess we will soon see what exact specification AXL used. Powdering does sound finer than crushing, but would hope to see the actual application using he same standard as the other players.

VMM's scoping study has no crushing at the front end, mainly screening and an assumption of ending up with <0.6 mm sized material, so I guess it either says there is limited amount of larger material or that the larger material is not significant in nature. Given the above crushing down to 1mm is probably fair although screening material above 1mm post de-clumping would be likely more representative of an actual potential flow-sheet. If AXL goes below this size in therms of their "powdering" definitely some question marks over it. Basically we don't know until they release their results what they actually meant.
