Driving someone away does not mean you win the argument, it means you have failed the argument. Disagreement is wonderful and the path to understanding. The fundamental principle of questioning must be presented in a manor that takes into count the listener:

I disagree with what you say but will defend to the death your right to say it and my right to ignore you.

If someone ignores you I really see that as your failure to respectfully communicate. I think most people would agree with that; don't you?
