Well they have a large silver resource with more to come on the Wonawinta claim and others they have. So silver move whenever it happens is going to benefit MKR greatly, it is just a matter of what is the best timing for a silver move. It would obviously be 3-6 months ago or so for MKR. They still have some months left to take advantage of it, and with silver shortages obvious now around the world it isn't just "crazies" talking about the lack of silver, it is being shown with actual data from world vaults. Does that help a company running close to the edge when the silver price doesn't move? No.
It is best to mine it at high prices than low Ag prices obviously and timing is nearly everything when it comes to mining. But if they can maintain their current output they can still turn a profit on the silver at current prices from my analysis, as long as they sell over $27 AUD per ounce. Will they? Well we have a few months to see I guess. Either way if the status quo remains it isn't like their financial situation is going to be massively improved in 6 months, it will just be roughly the same.
I agree though that this Iron move is more about them potentially going away from mining in the short term and becoming a developer until that kicks off again. Or at least maintaining that option. Mt Boppy does look promising, and they have so much stuff on their claims that they simply can't get to right now with their financial situation. A case of so many things to do but little funding to do them. Which is as @oldgold64 points out makes this a massive buy opportunity for someone with cash looking to multiply their money 20-30x on a bullish gold/silver outcome. As shareholders we wish that would be us making the 20-30x.
If there was no red tape on that iron sands project this whole thing looks completely different. MKR would have a "stable" income to explore all their resources, it could time when to mine and when to sell its precious metals and you are looking at the new S32 or whatever comparable type company you want. But right now with gold/silver price as it is things aren't looking good for most people and thus you have severe pessimism and also shock with this switch up. Which is either the best time to buy MKR or the worst time to buy, up to everyone to decide.
