Strategically, the UK is becoming more and more import dependent in energy. For much of its history UK has been underpinned by extensive coal mining, the industrial revolution needed this, together with the economy of transportation of non-perishable coal in slow moving barges in canals, then railways. Then the North Sea oil and gas came along, buttressing the UK economy and trade balances. That too is now winding down as resources are depleted year by year. More is ready to be developed but it will take quite a few years to come on stream and will not help in the near future. Wind and solar-well, solar is a non event in a place so far north with so much cloud and rain, and wind is very unpredictable and unreliable.
The massive recent failure in the UK and Europe, especially Germany of 'renewables' to live up to the hype has left all hyper dependent of gas from Russia. Whatever the politics of it, that is not now arriving. Prices for available gas have gone through the roof. Naturally. Nuclear power in the form of small generators is a likely route but there will be a lot of hoops to jump through and a lot of the fuel comes from the Russian sphere.

So, what's to do? Well, patch up relations with Russia, in part, but they won't do that. So, we come to shale gas and fracking onshore UK, mainly in the areas that used to be coal mining hubs, where there is high unemployment and incomes are lower quartile. It can't come on stream immediately but it is about the quickest option, at least in the case of Quadrilla for example. How keen is the UK for its economy to ride out the storm, or will it sink? What about families, the elderly on fixed incomes? The poor? Even Joe and Flo Average, even illegal channel invaders in soon to be unheated hotels.
There are no easy options, now, in the mental straitjacket the UK has got its silly self into. Has Jacob Rees Mogg in inserting the clause on local consultation first to the act allowing fracking to get the northern members off his back torpedoed it handing it over to the nimbies?

What AJL should be doing is getting into lawyering up to examining litigation against various bodies including governments at various levels and media mis-representers and slanderers for compensation, having invested over $300m (?) and for loss of profits. Claim a billion?
