The telepgraph reports "Cuadrilla has calculated that one successful shale gas site, roughly the size of a football pitch, could generate £285million of community funds at today's wholesale gas prices". Cuadrilla's offer appears to match a similar announcement by Ineos, which pledged to give 4% of its production revenue to nearby landowners and 2% of revenue to the wider community. There are 288 households within 1.5 km of Cuadrilla’s Preston New Road site, so each of those households might get £285 million x 4/6 / 288 = £670000. But what about the wider community?

In the next 30 years, Cuadrilla plans to drill 100 pads in Petroleum Exploration and Development Licence (PEDL) 165. PEDL 165 roughly corresponds to the boroughs of: Chorley, South Ribble, West Lancashire, Fylde, and Wyre. Those 5 boroughs have an area of 1110 square km and a population of 535181. On average people might get £285 million x 100 pads / 535181 people = £53253 per person. There will also be 64500 jobs at peak production. The ensuing economic boom and need for accommodation will be very good for local property values.
