As a Brit I am embarrassed by the pusillanimous decision to restore the ban on fracking.
The case for fracking strikes me as overwhelming, given our drastic shortage of gas in the UK, but, of course, our new PM, Mr Sunak, has to concentrate on restoring party unity first and there are a surprising number of Tory MPs opposed to fracking.
If we get a cold winter, then more of us may see sense. I do not live anywhere near Lancashire and do not know how much effort Cuadrilla is making to get the local people onside. This will be essential.
In the meantime I wonder if the value of AJL's Australian business may exceed the much-reduced market cap of the company. There is, of course, a heavy burden of debt.
